Nicholas Thomas Wright is a professor of the New Testament and early Christianity in the School of Divinity at the University of St. Andrews. From 2003 to 2010 Wright was the bishop of Durham in the Church of England, preceded by three years as canon theologian of Westminster Abbey.
Nicholas Thomas Wright was born in Morpeth, Northumberland in 1948 and was raised in the context of middle Anglicanism. From before the age of seven or eight he already felt called to go into Christian ministry. Educated at Sedbergh School, then in Yorkshire, he specialized in Classics.
