No. 70 Group (Army Co-Operation Training) RAF was a group of the Royal Air Force existing from November 1940 to July 1945. It was split from No. 22 Group RAF , Fighter Command , on 25 November 1940 to handle the increasing responsibility of training RAF units for army co-operation duties.

Townsend was commissioned into the RAF on 30 July 1992. [1] He became station commander at RAF Marham in July 2017, [2] [3] commander of No. 903 Expeditionary Air Wing at RAF Akrotiri in September 2019 and Assistant Chief of Staff, Capability Strategy at RAF Air Command in December 2021. [4] He took command of No. 22 Group RAF in May 2023.
