Oakdale Comprehensive School was an 11 to 16 co-educational comprehensive school of just over 800 pupils. Sixth-form provision was at Coleg Gwent in Crosskeys , and Ystrad Mynach College . Islwyn High School , which replaced Oakdale Comprehensive School in 2016.

A 92-home development on the former Oakdale Comprehensive School site, and a 45-strong apartment complex for the over-55s in Risca, both received unanimous backing at a Caerphilly County Borough Council cabinet meeting on Wednesday October 18.
