Januar 1941 das vollendete Quatuor pour la fin du temps zur Uraufführung, das Messiaen auf Notenpapier geschrieben hatte, welches ihm ein deutscher Hauptmann besorgt hatte. Auch die deutsche Lagerleitung war anwesend, umgeben von 400 Franzosen, die wegen der Januarkälte in geflickte tschechische Uniformen und Holzpantoffeln gestopft worden waren, um der Uraufführung des Quartetts zu lauschen.

11 mar 2021 · In a prisoner-of-war camp during the early days of World War II, French composer Olivier Messiaen (1908–1992) created his chamber music masterpiece Quatuor pour la fin du temps (Quartet for the End of Time). Rooted in his deeply Christian faith, it is inspired by the New Testament Book of Revelation.
In 1931, Olivier Messiaen takes the organist position at the Eglise de la Trinité. He improvises, composes a lot, experiments his musical ideas, inspired by the plain-chant, ancient and Asian rhythms, and the bird songs which fascinate him – he even decides to become an ornithologist.
