Paul Matisse (born 1933) is an artist and inventor known for his public art installations, many of which are interactive and produce sound. Matisse also invented the Kalliroscope . Early life and education. Paul Matisse is the son of New York gallery owner Pierre Matisse, (the youngest son of painter Henri Matisse ), and Alexina Sattler.
Paul Matisse is an artist whose work incorporates elements of mechanical design and invention. He graduated from Harvard University in 1954 and studied at the Harvard Graduate School of Design. He worked briefly with Buckminster Fuller and then for Arthur D. Little, Inc. in Cambridge.

The Second Wheel. The word Kalliroscope comes from the Greek words “Kalos,” “Rheos,” and “Skopien,” meaning Beauty, Flow and Seeing. A Kalliroscope is an object in which to see a beautiful current. It was invented by Paul Matisse in 1966, patented in 1968, and sold throughout the world since then.

The remarkable career of Henri Matisse, one of the most influential artists of the twentieth century, whose stylistic innovations (along with those of Pablo Picasso) fundamentally altered the course of modern art and affected the art of several generations of younger painters, spanned almost six and a half decades.
1983. A cloud-like, 400-element sculpture, begun in 1983 for General Electric but never finished because the company abandoned, for budgetary reasons, the program with which it was to be associated. The cloud would be controlled by a computer, one whose task every morning would be to create the script for the day.
Matisse is commonly regarded, along with Pablo Picasso, as one of the artists who best helped to define the revolutionary developments in the visual arts throughout the opening decades of the twentieth century, responsible for significant developments in painting and sculpture. [2] [3] [4] [5]
