Petar II Petrović Njegoš (Njeguši, 1.11.1813. – Cetinje, 19.10.1851.) – Montenegrin bishop, ruler (1830- 1851), poet, writer and philosopher was born in the village of Njeguši. His father was Tomo Markov, brother of Petar I and his mother was Ivana Proroković. He was baptized with the name Radivoje, or shorter Rade.
He died of consumption in 1851. His full name and title was Petar II Petrovic Njegos, Bishop of Montenegro, but he is generally known as Njegos. Njegos was a cultured man who had read much, meditated much, and experienced much. He was for quite a long time the only educated man in his country.
The Mountain Wreath (Serbian: Горски вијенац / Gorski vijenac) is a poem and a play written by Prince-Bishop and poet Petar II Petrović-Njegoš. Njegoš wrote The Mountain Wreath during 1846 in Cetinje and published it the following year after the printing in an Armenian monastery in Vienna.
