Philippine Welser (* 1527 in Augsburg, Ü 24. April 1580 auf Schloss Ambras), die Nichte von Bartholomäus Welser, wird von Erzherzog Ferdinand II. von Tirol im Jahr 1557 geheiratet. Die Ehe wird lange Zeit verheimlicht. Philippine lebt auf Schloss Ambras bei Innsbruck. Sie sammelt Heilkräuter und schreibt ein Arzneibuch mit vielen Rezepten.
Im Jahr 1557 ehelichte er heimlich seine bildhübsche große Liebe Philippine Welser, eine Augsburger Kaufmannstochter. In der damaligen Zeit war eine solche Heirat zwar kirchlich möglich, aber gesellschaftlich verpönt. Versteckt lebte Philippine auf Schloss Ambras, das ihr überschrieben wurde.
