The Phillip Street Theatre (succeeded by the Phillip Theatre) was a popular and influential Australian theatre and theatrical company, located in Phillip Street in Sydney that was active from 1954 and 1971 that became well known for its intimate satirical revue productions. History. Founding.
The Phillip Street Theatre, originally known as St James Hall, was built in 1903 by the Church of England. A small stage was erected in the hall in 1912, with this being rebuilt and enlarged four years later.

27 ago 2016 · It’s hard to believe that Phillip Street, which established this form of entertainment in Sydney, has had such a short history. In May 1954, producer, William Orr, opened the theatre with a revue called, Top of the Bill, the first of its kind in Sydney. And since then, there have been several revues. And all of them have been a great success.
Sydney's Phillip Street Theatre is today largely associated with the intimate revue genre.
