Synopsis. A heist movie in less than fifteen minutes. Two men are hired to rob a safe in an office, the catch, any light in the room triggers the alarm, they have to work in pitch black. Cutting from a practice room, where the men rehearse blindfolded, to the pre-heist meet in a pub, to the heist itself, we piece together the drama.

Liam (Liam Cunningham) and Michael (Michael Fassbender) are professional safe crackers who meet on a simple job to relieve an office safe from its contents. The catch is a light activated alarm system impelling the men to embark on a pitch black heist.
That’s not to say Pitch Black Heist is bad due to its length; Michael Fassbender and Liam Cunningham delivers two solid performances with a charming chemistry and the grey cinematography is slick. This has been on my watchlist since seeing Slow West six years ago, and John Maclean still hasn’t made a new film, a shame.
PITCH BLACK HEIST - JOHN MACLEAN (2011) Written and directed by John Maclean, the crime drama (and black comedy) Pitch Black Heist won the Best Short Film BAFTA in 2012. Starring Michael Fassbender, it tells the story of two Irishmen hired to crack a safe in a London office guarded, for some reason, by a light sensitive alarm system.
