Trama. Durante la prima guerra mondiale il giovane Hercule Poirot, arruolato nell’ esercito belga, elabora una strategia per riconquistare un ponte tenuto dai tedeschi senza subire perdite; tuttavia non riesce a salvare il suo capitano, inciampato su una trappola esplosiva che, nello scoppio, sfregia anche il suo viso.
