Das Gebäude trägt den Namen seines Stifters Dr. John Radcliffe (1650–1714), des Leibarztes der Königin Anne. Er stellte für den Bau der Bibliothek 40.000 englische Pfund zur Verfügung. John Radcliffe war ebenfalls Stifter von Oxfords erstem Krankenhaus, dem Radcliffe Infirmary. Camera stammt aus dem Lateinischen und bedeutet Raum, Gewölbe.
31 lug 2018 · On Tuesday 29 May 2018, the Oxford Blue Plaque Society unveiled two plaques in Oxford commemorating penicillin, one on the Western wall of the South wing of Oxford’s Radcliffe Infirmary, currently occupied by the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences, and one on the front (Southern) wall of the William Dunn School.

Excavations at a 200-year-old cemetery associated with Dr John Radcliffe’s Infirmary on Walton Street in Oxford have unearthed some 400 burials, providing new insights into the practice of medicine in an era before anaesthesia and sterile operating theatres.

John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford. In 1919 the Radcliffe Infirmary purchased the Manor House estate in Headington. The Infirmary site was already overcrowded and they had been asked to provide sanatorium accommodation for tuberculosis. They had applied to the Radcliffe Trustees for the use of some of the Observatory land, but without success.
23 dic 2010 · Famed for leading the world in many fields of medical discoveries and innovations, the Radcliffe Infirmary was the birthplace for numerous breakthroughs in medicine and treatments, the most significant and widely used now being the use of penicillin, which was first tested on a patient in 1941 - the same year in which the Radcliffe opened the first accident service in Britain.
