The academy is a larger than the average-sized secondary school. Ranelagh School converted to become a Church of England academy school on 1 July 2011. When its predecessor school, also called Ranelagh School, was last inspected by Ofsted, it was judged to be outstanding overall. Over 90% of the students are from White British backgrounds.
