Sir Raphael Cilento was Director for Refugees and Displaced Persons at the United Nations in New York, and Director of the World Health Organisation (WHO) where he achieved international fame after the Second World War for his work in aiding refugees, saving thousands of lives by controlling outbreaks of typhoid and cholera as well as malaria in The Balkans.
