Thomas Rotherham College was formed as a Sixth Form College in 1967 but its origins date back to 1483 when what became Rotherham Grammar School for boys was founded by Thomas Rotherham, a local scholar who had risen to be Archbishop of York, Chancellor of England and Chancellor of Cambridge University.

24 giu 2015 · According to Wroe et al, when the civil war broke out, Rotherham was a Parliamentarian town but the master of Rotherham Grammar School was a Royalist. He decided to retire and became rector of Great Ponton in Lincolnshire but in 1646 he suffered sequestration and moved to London where he taught in private schools.
