Rufino del Carmen Arellanes Tamayo (August 25, 1899 – June 24, 1991) was a Mexican painter of Zapotec heritage, born in Oaxaca de Juárez, Mexico. Tamayo was active in the mid-20th century in Mexico and New York, painting figurative abstraction with surrealist influences.
Rufino Tamayo nasce a Oaxaca, Messico, il 26 agosto 1899. Rimasto orfano nel 1911, si trasferisce presso una zia a Città del Messico e frequenta una scuola commerciale. Nel 1915 comincia a prendere lezioni di disegno e nel 1917 si dedica esclusivamente allo studio dell’arte.
