In 1999, Gillard's serious solo career began with the release of the five-song Malamute Jute EP. This was followed in 2004 by Salamander, his first solo full-length album made as an adult, and the 2008 album Call from Restricted. Parade On. Gillard's 2014 solo album, Parade On, was released on Nine Mile Records.
