Stoneground was an American rock band formed in 1970 in Concord, California. Originally a trio, Stoneground expanded to a 10-piece band by the time of their eponymous 1971 debut album. The group appeared in two films, Medicine Ball Caravan (1971) and Dracula A.D. 1972 (1972), and released three albums before singer Sal Valentino quit in 1973.

In the 1970s, Hot Tuna became a full-time band, and the style became more rock oriented. For their second LP, fiddler Papa John Creach and drummer Sammy Piazza joined the band. Later, the band changed to a power trio with Bob Steeler on drums.
18 dic 2019 · the Jeffferson Airplane. The follow up record added drummer Sammy Piazza and blues fiddler and Bay area favorite Papa John Creach on electric violin to the school of musical fish. The first two albums could easily be referred to as Hot Tuna Acoustic and Hot Tuna Electric.

In 1971 they were documented on the album, "This First Pull Up, Then Pull Down , recorded live at the Chateau Liberte close to Santa cruz,Ca.
This was the first Hot Tuna album recorded after guitarist Jorma Kaukonen and bass player Jack Casady had left Jefferson Airplane. They were joined as before by drummer Sammy Piazza, though Papa John Creach had left the band for Jefferson Starship.
