Recorded in a kitchen in Nashville and in a room close to the emergency department of Boston City Hospital, complete with ambulance sirens in the background, Patty Griffin's first demo tape was scrappy and unpolished but enough to catch the ear of Jim Phelan, a talent scout for A&M Records.
