Seepersad Naipaul (/ ˈ n aɪ p ɔː l, n aɪ ˈ p ɔː l /; 1906–1953) was a Trinidadian writer. He was the father of V. S. Naipaul and Shiva Naipaul and married into the influential Indo-Trinidadian Capildeo family. Career. Seepersad Naipaul worked as the first Indo-Trinidadian journalist for the Trinidad Guardian.

In 1943, Seepersad Naipaul had already had years of practice in writing the most vivid journalism about Trinidad and about Indian politics. He had also gained experience of working as a trained social worker, giving him unequalled access to the lives of rural Indian Trinidadians – lives that were utterly unknown to the rest of the population.
Naipaul's father, Seepersad, was an English-language journalist. In 1929, he had begun contributing stories to the Trinidad Guardian, and in 1932 he joined the staff as the provincial Chaguanas correspondent.
Born in rural Trinidad in 1906 to an impoverished Brahmin family, Seepersad Naipaul married into the powerful Capildeo family.
