Shalimar ( Hindi : शालीमार) is a 1978 Bollywood film, written and directed by Krishna Shah. [2] The movie starred Dharmendra, [3] Zeenat Aman, Shammi Kapoor, Prem Nath and Aruna Irani. English actor Rex Harrison and American actors John Saxon and Sylvia Miles [4] appear in supporting roles in their first and only Bollywood film.
Performed by Usha Uthup, Shalimar’s opening musical salvo is a psychedelia-tinged loungecore banger that sounds closer to 1968 than 1978. It’s a tune I’ve been familiar with since the 1997 release of the Karminsky Experience-curated Further In-Flight Entertainment , and it’s why I chose to watch the film, just to see how it was incorporated.

Shalimar plot. The thief Kumar, on the run from the police, finds an invitation for Raja Bahadur Singh to visit Sir John Locksley's island. But Raja is shot dead and Kumar decides to pose as him and go to the island. He is soon unmasked and turns out to be among a couple of master criminals.
The reason why John has invited them is to find a successor to take his place as he is dying of cancer. He feels that one of his invitees can be trusted to take his place and for this he has arranged for them to steal a ruby (Shalimar) worth 135 crores of rupees. This gem is placed in a secure room within his palace, which is alarmed, and guarded.
