Reeder (who appeared on Zao's Author and Sustained demos, as well as a split with Outcast) left before Zao recorded All Else Failed and was replaced by Shawn Jonas, who went on to form Symphony in Peril.

The band gained attention quite early in their development because Shawn Jonas, former vocalist for popular metalcore band Zao, was one of the founding members. Quickly, they signed with Facedown Records, and released their debut full-length, Lost Memoirs and Faded Pictures, in 2003.

The Splinter Shards The Birth Of Separation gave equal precesence, mixing the Christian centered lyrics with the piercing vocals of Shawn Jonas, well placed harmonics intermixed with the strong chord progressions of Roy Goudy and Jesse Smiths drums as the foundation of the record, adding emphasis with bell hits and muted crash strikes.
