As night falls, solo mother Jess (Melanie Lynskey from Heavenly Creatures) finds herself fending off the attentions of an obstinate competitor (Craig Hall), with a much harsher vision of the world than hers. Inspired by similar real-life contests, McCarten based the film on his novel Endurance (2007).

Jess is a mother and reluctant parking warden. Tom is a self-obsessed Greetings Cards salesman with an addiction to competitions who will do anything to win. Together they are just two of the competitors in a grueling endurance contest to win a car – whoever keeps their hand on it the longest wins.
