A schizophrenic causes havoc in his brother's restaurant. The film's central character, Ray (Daniel Craig), has schizophrenia. The story begins with Ray's discharge from psychiatric hospital. Ray's devoted brother Pete (David Morrissey) picks him up and drives Ray to his new abode, the spare room in Pete's West London flat.
Some Voices has two and they are both strong. In fact, there are three because Ray himself is a storyline, being the way he is, decidedly untogether. The performances are terrific, particularly Morrissey, who captures the flaws and inadequacies of a driven man with such accuracy it hurts.
Here in Some Voices, he is outstanding in his portrayal of a younger brother battling with mental illness and confronting himself, his relationships, his perceptions and the world. What I am keeping from the film, apart from the richness of the theme and brilliant acting, is that a story can be told in so many different ways, depending on who's telling it.
