Beneath Still Waters is adapted from a 1989 novel by Matthew Costello, who elsewhere is mostly a writer of film and videogame novelisations, plus several original works and children’s books.
It’s a Brian Yuzna film with some really fun practical effects and a nice Lovecraftian story. The Spanish setting and cast of primarily Spanish actors have it an old school 80’s Euro horror vibe and it just all worked for me.
