5 ago 2022 · Il film salta d’improvviso dalla cruda realtà al lirismo della fiaba, con scene di atroce violenza legate al presente che si alternano a immagini animate quando a prendere il sopravvento è il racconto del mito, quella tartaruga di pietra che altro non è che l’ennesimo tranello narrativo di cui Stone Turtle è disseminato.
Stone Turtle è un film sulla possibilità di modificare e manomettere il mito. Parte con una storia che procede linearmente, fornisce i nessi di causa ed effetto; e poi quella storia viene riscritta, almeno 4 volte, con variazioni, capovolgimenti e incoerenze.

6 mar 2023 · The stone turtle, we are told, was an ordinary male turtle who became separated from his true love during a storm. Washing up on an unfamiliar island, he met a hermit crab who tole him about a sacred pool and warned him not to eat anything from it. The turtle found the pool, but the creatures in it looked so delicious that he couldn’t resist.
Stone Turtle is director Woo Ming Jin's verbally expressed intent on getting back to his roots after a stint of working on more commercial fare, and in turn this movie feels like a perhaps over-eager burst of passion, which lacked the trimming and polish to truly bring out its standout elements. There is plenty to applaud here.
