The lifelong ambition of Adolph Grieg, first violinist in New York City's Cosmopolitan Symphony, is realized when he is informed of his promotion to concert master and is offered the chance to play the violin solo of his favorite overture, Offenbach's "Orpheus in Hades."
Al Shean is a violinist in a symphony orchestra who is about to be given a prominent solo in the next concert when he badly injures his right hand. When it heals, he finds he can no longer play, and his adult children (Evelyn Brent and John Darrow) have flown the coop, leaving him to fend for himself.
