3 ott 2023 · I was unaware that Tad Lincoln spoke with a cleft palate; and was self-conscience because of it. After the death of Willie, Tad's brother, in 1862, Lincoln and Tad grew extremely close. Of all of Abe Lincoln and Mary Lincoln's children, only Robert Todd lived to maturity. Tad was just 18 years old when he died.
Thomas "Tad" Lincoln III was the fourth and youngest son of Abraham and Mary Todd Lincoln. The nickname "Tad" was given to him by his father, who observed that he had a large head and was "as wiggly as a tadpole" when he was a baby. Tad Lincoln was known to be impulsive and unrestrained, and he did not attend school during his father's lifetime.
Tad's pain and agony worsened as his face grew thinner. On Saturday morning, July 15, 1871, Tad passed away at the age of 18. The cause of death was most likely tuberculosis. Tad's death occurred in the Clifton House in Chicago. Simple funeral services were held for Tad the next day in Robert Lincoln's Chicago home.
