Pandit Tarun Bhattacharya (born 23 December 1957) is an Indian classical musician who plays the santoor, a type of hammered dulcimer. He studied with Ravi Shankar. He was awarded the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for 2018.
25 lug 2021 · Tarun Bhattacharya is one of the world’s preeminent virtuosos of the santur, a hammered dulcimer with a graceful and quiet resonance. He regularly performs in concert and at music festivals in Europe, North America, the Far East and, of course, throughout India.
Pandit Tarun Bhattacharya’s santoor style is highly distinctive, borrowing from the melodic inclinations of many other instruments. In his youth he learned guitar, piano, organ, sitar, and tabla with Rabi, his father, and Dulal Roy, master of the jaltarang (tuned water bowls).
The first santoor player featured on the influential all-India radio and TV show Raag Rang, Bhattacharya received his earliest musical instruction from his father, Shri Robi Bhattacharya, who played sitar and santoor.
