The album is divided into two sections; 'Grit' and 'Glitter'. The first five songs constituted the 'Grit' and were produced by Almond, Billy McGee, Nigel Hine, and The Grid. The 'Glitter' side (the Tenement Symphony) was produced by Trevor Horn.

16 ago 2023 · Marc Almond’s 1991 album Tenement Symphony will be reissued as a 6CD+DVD deluxe edition in October. After 1990’s excellent Enchanted spawned just one top 40 single, the Trevor Horn-produced Tenement Symphony delivered three, including ‘Days of Pearly Spencer’, Almond’s last top 10 hit in the UK (it reached No 4).
This remastered set has the actual Trevor Horn produced ‘Tenement Symphony’ sequence restored as was his original intention with the dramatic statement of the orchestral ‘Prelude’ as a precursor to the intoxicating energy of lead hit single, ‘Jacky’, as written by Jacques Brel.

Almond then signed to WEA and released a new solo album, Tenement Symphony. Produced partly by Trevor Horn , the album yielded three Top 40 hits including renditions of the Jacques Brel classic "Jacky" (which made the UK Top 20), and "The Days of Pearly Spencer" which returned Almond to the UK Top 5 in 1992.
