The Companion (Spanish: El acompañante) is a 2015 Cuban drama film directed by Pavel Giroud. It was selected as the Cuban entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 89th Academy Awards but it was not nominated.

The Companion: Regia di Gary Fleder. Con Kathryn Harrold, Bruce Greenwood, Talia Balsam, Brion James. Writer catches her boyfriend cheating on her. Infuriated, she buys an android companion and takes him with her to a remote cabin in the woods to keep her company as she writes. She starts a romance with him, which turns into a nightmare.
The Companion is the story of Companion Model G-45: Geoffrey (Bruce Greenwood), a simple automaton created to assist humans with their mundane day-to-day chores, who gets purchased by a romance author (Kathryn Harrold) and taken away to her mountain cabin for a life of cyber-servitude.
Synopsis. At the height of the 1980s AIDS epidemic, Cuban boxing champion Horacio's punishment for failing a drug test is to watch over the brash, combative Daniel, a patient in a sanatorium where HIV patients are compulsorily confined. The two collide as Daniel yearns for freedom while Horacio dreams of returning to the ring.
