2 dic 2022 · Various lyrics have been written to the tune, although the first version was by David Silver of Inverness, who was asked to write a song for a BBC TV thriller, "The Dark Island", filmed in Benbecula in 1963. The island was his inspiration for the pensive song. He set his lyrics to MacLachlan's air.

Bourne hired Italian stonemasons to build the castle for the approximate cost of $500,000, or about $13 million in today's dollars. To look at it today, it's difficult to tell that the castle actually started out as a hunting lodge and retreat.
