The Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre is a professional conservatory for actors in New York City. First operational from 1915 to 1927, the school re-opened in 1928 and has been active ever since. It is the birthplace of the Meisner technique of acting, named for American actor and acting teacher Sanford Meisner.
The Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre offers intensive, full-time conservatory training centered on the acting techniques taught by Sanford Meisner and focused on developing the skills necessary for a career in acting. 2024 SIX WEEK SUMMER INTENSIVE. DATES: June 3rd - July 12th, 2024. TUITION $4,250. + "Acting on Pitch"Elective.

The theater closed in 1927 but reopened the next year as the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre. The sisters placed the direction of the school under Rita Wallach Morgenthau, and its first class of nine students was taught by Agnes DeMille, Louis Horst, Laura Elliott, and Martha Graham.
