The Railway Men is based on railway workers who saved many lives during the 1984 gas tragedy at the chemical company Union Carbide India Limited 's plant in Bhopal. [3] The series is inspired by the efforts of station master Ghulam Dastagir and his team at the Bhopal Junction railway station on the night of the tragedy.

Eric Lomax. Eric Sutherland Lomax (30 May 1919 – 8 October 2012) [1] was a British Army officer who was sent to a Japanese prisoner-of-war camp in 1942. He is most notable for his book, The Railway Man, about his experiences before, during, and after World War II, which won the 1996 NCR Book Award and the PEN/Ackerley Prize .
Speaking as a Japanese, 'The Railway Man' is extremely difficult to sit through, as it deals with the treatment of British POWs by the Japanese Army after they took Singapore during World War II.
Jonathan Teplitzky compie una precisa scelta: parla di quel massacro, ma lo fa attraverso i ricordi dei protagonisti, adattando l'autobiografia dello stesso Lomax (The Railway Man). Non vi sono parentesi didattiche, piuttosto un lungo ascoltare, un silente procedere. Pian piano, siamo travolti da quel dolore, ne siamo sommersi, soffocati.
