Dorian Gray (Italian: Il dio chiamato Dorian, lit. 'The God called Dorian'), also known as The Sins of Dorian Gray and The Secret of Dorian Gray, is a 1970 film adaptation of Oscar Wilde's 1890 novel The Picture of Dorian Gray starring Helmut Berger.
Tony Maylam's gender-bending version of the classic Wilde novel takes its cue from 'Dr Jekyll and Sister Hyde' and makes a female the personification of evil, in this case Belinda Bauer's film star, Dorian Gray, whose sins and wrinkles adorn an old screen test on film while she whores and cheats her way through life.
In this version of Oscar Wilde’s tale, Dorian Gray is an actress who, desperate to become a worldwide star, makes a deal that switches her soul to her image on film, then proceeds to sleep her way to the top, knowing that she will never age.
