Se Frank Miller ha ideato tutto questo come tributo alla buonanima del suo maestro Will Eisner, gli ha fatto un pessimo servizio. The Spirit ha solo due pregi, ovvero quello di essere esteticamente appagante (con i pur evidenti debiti verso il pioneristico Sin City di Rodriguez e dello stesso Miller) e quello di mettere in scena in modo stilosissimo alcune delle femmine più gnocche del momento.
