Nel 1385 fu conferito il titolo di duca di Gloucester a Thomas di Woodstock (1355-1397) dal nipote, re Riccardo II, cui si ribellò e dal quale fu fatto arrestare nel 1397; trasferito a Calais, qui fu ucciso poco dopo. Il titolo di conte fu subito dopo di Thomas le Despenser (1373-1400).
