Anthony Peter Smith (September 23, 1912 – December 26, 1980) was an American sculptor, visual artist, architectural designer, and a noted theorist on art. He is often cited as a pioneering figure in American Minimalist sculpture.

The American artist Tony Smith occupies an important place in the history of twentieth-century art and design. Born in 1912 in South Orange, New Jersey, he is best known for his large-scale sculptures—inventive polygonal forms made of steel, most painted black—of the 1960s and ’70s.
Tony Smith's involvement with British Rugby League began by finishing his playing career in 1996 with a spell at Workington Town in the inaugural Super League season. His initial time at Workington was hampered by Achilles tendon injury suffered two seasons previous, made all the worse by Workington's poor form which saw them relegated to National League One . [5]
