1 giorno fa · The Second Dutch War ended with the signing of the Treaty of Breda. As a result of the Second Dutch War, Charles dismissed Lord Clarendon, whom he used as a scapegoat for the war. Clarendon fled to France when impeached for high treason (which carried the penalty of death).

One in a series of naval conflicts between England and the Dutch Republic , its causes were a combination of political differences and commercial disputes.

In return the English kept New Amsterdam , the main city of the former colony of New Netherland in North America on the mid-Atlantic coast.

The Dutch briefly regained control of parts of New Netherland in the Third Anglo-Dutch War but surrendered claim to the territory in the 1674 Treaty of Westminster, ending the Dutch colonial presence in America.

4 mag 2024 · In the 1667 Treaty of Breda, the Dutch ceded the New Netherlands colony to England (including Manhattan), and England ceded BOTH Suriname and the island of Run in the East Indies to the Dutch. In fact, England even gave Guyana (abutting the western boundary of Suriname) to the Dutch (the English didn't get it back until 1815).
