1 giorno fa · I am fairly certain that this version of “St. Louis Blues” was Sanborn’s way of paying homage to his hometown, the mentorship he received from Gil Evans, and the influence of Cannonball Adderley on his playing. The orchestration, adapted from Evans’ 1958 arrangement featuring Adderley, is likely the handiwork of Gil Goldstein.
5 giorni fa · David Sanborn was born in Tampa, Florida on 30 July 1945, but grew up in Kirkwood, Missouri. He contracted polio at the age of three, and when he was eleven, a doctor recommended that he take up the saxophone to improve his breathing capacity. Sanborn took to the alto sax like the proverbial fish to water and was soon a competent player.
