With Tubeway Army still avoiding live shows, Numan recruited some additional musicians to make these television appearances (see below). At the peak of success, a John Peel session in June 1979 was credited as Gary Numan, and the Tubeway Army group name was dropped.

At the time of this Peel Session Numan was transitioning from Tubeway Army's more guitar-oriented android punk to a much more synth-based sound. This session, his first, features three tracks from "Replicas" with a pared-down power trio (lol) line-up.
