The University of Limerick (UL) (Irish: Ollscoil Luimnigh) is a public research university institution in Limerick, Ireland. Founded in 1972 as the National Institute for Higher Education, Limerick, it became a university in September 1989 in accordance with the University of Limerick Act 1989.
UL has significantly improved its position in the 2024 QS World University Rankings, climbing more than 100 places to a ranking of 426 overall. UL is now in the top 2% of universities in the world. It is an independent, internationally focused university.
