Upper Canada College was founded in 1829 by the Lieutenant Governor of Upper Canada at that time, Major-General Sir John Colborne (later Lord Seaton), to serve as a feeder school to the newly established King's College (later the University of Toronto). It was modelled on the great public schools of Britain, most notably Eton.
