Hän osallistui taisteluihin muun muassa Kuopiossa, Varkaudessa, Mouhussa ja Viipurin suunnalla sekä johti Haminassa teloituspartiota keväällä 1918. Poliisi, järjestö- ja lehtimies. Nuoruuden tärkeimpien muovautumisvuosien ajan Urho Kekkonen oli työkokemukseltaan poliisi ja harrastuksiltaan järjestö- ja lehtimies.
