Back in the early 2010s, local film production company Lola Pictures got the chance to bring major indie filmmaking to Las Vegas with two feature films, Matthew Ross’ “Frank & Lola” and Gerardo Naranjo’s “Viena and the Fantomes,” thanks to support from Tony Hsieh’s Downtown Project and the then-new tax credit program for filming in Nevada.
In the 80s, a roadie named Viena travels with the Fantomes, a post punk band on tour through the American west. When the band has the possibility of sudden success, Viena finds herself involved in a love triangle that will test all of her convictions. Cast. Crew.

Viena and the Fantomes has a lot of interesting choices that had potential to be very compelling, that is if any of those paths had been explored. Introducing his audience to the love triangle was at least interesting but it never went anywhere and I feel like this film could have been much stronger if it had focused on the abuse of the women in this cult of sorts.
