  1. Group Captain Wilfrid George Gerald Duncan Smith, DSO & Bar, DFC & Two Bars, AE (28 May 1914 – 11 December 1996) was a Royal Air Force flying ace of the Second World War. He was the father of Iain Duncan Smith (Member of Parliament and former Leader of the Conservative Party).

  2. Duncan Smith was promoted Group Captain in November 1943 and took command of of No. 324 Wing RAF with whom he continued to fly operationally until March 1945. His final victory score was 17 enemy aircraft confirmed destroyed and two shared.

  3. Duncan-Smith went on to command the 244th Wing before being promoted to Group Captain as commander of the 324th Wing covering the advance through Italy and the liberation of Southern France.
