Il film è sostanzialmente un biopic fittizio sulla vita della rockstar Dewey Cox (interpretata dal grande John C. Reilly), che traumatizzato dalla morte del fratello maggiore (tagliato in due da un machete!) decide di dedicarsi alla musica, con lo scopo di rendere onore alla memoria del defunto.
