Walthamstow School for Girls, also previously known as Walthamstow County High School for Girls, first opened as a self-supporting “School for Girls” in 1890 with its original building located in West Avenue Road, then moving to Church Hill House . Its original headmistress, Miss Hewett aged 27, served for 35 years until her retirement in 1924.
