William Letwin (14 December 1922 – 20 February 2013) was an American academic who ended his career as Professor of Political Science at the London School of Economics. Letwin was born and raised in Milwaukee , Wisconsin , the son of Bessie (Rosenthal) and Lazar Letwin.
The Letwins were fond of social life and held a salon in their house – the most prominent guest being Michael Oakeshott, the dean of conservative philosophy, a mentor to Shirley and a colleague to William (who moved from Chicago to the London School of Economics). Letwin was no libertarian, and is mostly overlooked by libertarian scholars.
