William Hannan Spier (October 16, 1906 – May 30, 1973) was an American writer, producer, and director for television and radio. He is best known for his radio work, notably Suspense and The Adventures of Sam Spade.

Producer/director of "The Adventures of Sam Spade" from 1946 to 1951 on ABC Radio (1946), CBS Radio (1946-1949) and NBC Radio (1949-1951). Stepfather of April Kent. Brother-in-law of Gypsy Rose Lee. Spier and his wife Kay Thompson were close friends with Judy Garland.
Suspense producer-director William Spier was one of many creative helmsmen who encouraged innovation at all levels (including music and sound effects). Spier kept rehearsal time to a minimum, believing it would make everyone more alert during the live broadcast.
