Biographical. Willy Brandt was born in Lübeck, Germany, in December, 1913. He was educated in Lübeck and in Oslo after escaping Nazi persecution in Germany. After leaving Germany, he continued his work against Nazism through international cooperation and frequent visits to various European countries.
German, European, Citizen of the World. Willy Brandt is regarded as one of the outstanding statesmen of the 20 th century. Born into a working-class family in Lübeck, he made his way to Berlin and Bonn by way of Oslo and Stockholm and left behind an international political legacy.
